Following the success of all our previous colloquia, we are now holding our fifth colloquium on the Esquisses Op.63. We meet at the home of Julian Haxby, and Richard Murphy again leads the proceedings. All members and their guests are welcome to take part, playing, discussing or listening. Those who play are asked to prepare one or more of the following Esquisses: 7, 13, 20, 25, 27, 28, 36, 42 & 47. Members may also play other Esquisses (or other works). This session may be of particular interest to pianists and teachers in search of interesting new repertoire. For further information contact the Society Secretary or the Society Treasurer.

Marc-Andre Hamelin presents The Enigma of Paris: Charles-Valentin Alkan, Frédéric Chopin and the French-Jewish Romance highlighting the connections between the artistic languages and musical friendship of two masters, Chopin and Alkan. Lunchtime recital, with Elizabeth Walker (playing an unaltered flute of 1859 by Louis Lot) and Richard Shaw (playing Chopin's Pleyel piano of 1847-8). Includes works by Boehm, Chopin, and Alkan: Fantasietta alla Moresca (from the first volume of Impromptus Op.32), a work that may have been played (by Alkan or Chopin) on this particular piano in Chopin's apartment in Square d'Orleans.
