Mark Viner’s 4th CD in complete Alkan piano edition (Feb 2021)

Mark Viner’s fourth Alkan CD includes:

  • Trois marches quasi da cavalleria (op. 37)

25 Esquisses pour piano, composed by members of the Alkan Society (Dec 2020)

In 2019, members of the Alkan Society were invited to compose short piano pieces  inspired by Alkan’s Esquisses, op. 63. Twenty-five submissions were received by the deadline (Alkan’s 206th birthday), and a Volume of was published to coincide with the 100th issue of our Bulletin, in April 2020. Free copies were sent to all members. We are now making an open-access on-line only version of the Volume available, together with audio recordings of many of the pieces. Orchestration of Alkan’s Le Chemin de Fer by Thibault Perrine (Nov 2020)

The French composer Thibault Perrine has transcribed Le Chemin de Fer (op.27) for orchestra. The first performance was given in 2017 by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine conducted by Paul Daniel in Bordeaux, and the recording was made by Radio Classique. M. Perrine has kindly permitted us to made the recording of the performance available on our website, here.

Alkan debut CD from Schaghajegh Nosrati: Solo concerto (Sep 2019)

The German pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati’s debut Alkan CD is on the C-Avi music label LC15080. It will be released on 22 November 2019. She performs:

Transcription of Quand Israël sortit d’Egypte (Oct 2018)

The third of Alkan’s Trois anciennes mélodies juives, entitled Quand Israël sortit d’Egypte, is scored for pedal piano or organ, unlike the first two pieces which are for soprano and piano. Mark Viner has arranged the third piece for piano alone. The score is published by Muse Press from whom the transcription may be purchased.
